THE PREDICTION
Richard Gasquet raced to a 6-0 first set over the world number 29 Taylor Fritz and then recovered well from the American’s fight-back to win the decider. Whilst it could be said that Fritz has struggled for form recently, Gasquet was quick to pounce on his foe’s weaknesses and the 34-year-old thoroughly deserved the win. He will face the sixth seed Diego Schwartzman with some history behind him as the Argentine is on the wrong end of a 3-0 head-to-head record between the pair, including at two ATP 1000 events. Gasquet defeated Schwartzman at the Cincinnati Open last year to complete a third-successive straight-sets victory over the 28-year-old, although it should be different this time around. World number nine Schwartzman has enjoyed a career-year in a disrupted 2020 season and he will be well up for this match as he chases down ATP Finals qualification. Gasquet’s record against him suggests the veteran can take a set here but Schwartzman should earn his first victory over the Frenchman in Paris.
