THE PREDICTION
Rafael Nadal aced toa first set lead over Jordan Thompson but the Australian displayed classic grit and determination to force the Spaniard into his second tiebreak of the week in just two matches so far. Nevertheless, the world number two came through that match in straight-sets and will be match fit and ready now to try and win this tournament for the first time. He faces Pablo Carreno Busta, a fellow Spaniard, for the seventh time in their careers having never lost to the world number 15. PCB has only previously taken a set from Nadal, back in 2015, and has lost two matches this year in straight sets. Although the 29-year-old is in his best form this year it has tailed off somewhat from his Grand Slam campaigns. Carreno Busta has yet to drop a set at the Paris Masters but looks likely to drop two in a row now to his compatriot, though he will be Nadal’s biggest test yet this week.
