- World number 14 Andrey Rublev is the sixth seed at the Dubai Open and already on course for his best season yet having won two ATP titles in January to double his overall tally.
- The 22-year-old has surged through the opening two rounds of this ATP 500 event in Dubai with commanding wins over Lorenzo Musetti and Filip Krajinovic to reach the quarter-finals.
- Rublev will face Dan Evans for the second time this year having beaten the British number one in the quarter-finals of the Adelaide International in their first ever meeting.
DAN EVANS
- Dan Evans put out the fourth seed Fabio Fognini in the first round of the Dubai Open before just edging past Pierre-Hugues Herbert in the round of 16, both in three sets.
- The world number 37 is through to his fourth ATP tour quarter-final this season and looks set to challenge his career-high ranking of 31st come the end of this week.
- 29-year-old Evans is undoubtedly in the form of his life and has now beaten four top 20 players, with world number 11 Fognini equalling his defeat of then 11th-ranked David Goffin at the ATP Cup in January.
THE PREDICTION
There are several players in the top 20 that Dan Evans has proven he is capable of going toe-to-toe with but the rankings are not gospel and despite defeating two world number 11s this season, world number 14 Andrey Rublev is arguably the toughest player he has faced this year. Meeting for the second time in a 2020 quarter-final, their previous result is as good a benchmark as any for what should entail here. Evans has not looked particularly comfortable in Dubai this week but is well capable of taking another set from the Russian, although Rublev should advance to the semis.
