Under the management of former Ireland boss Stephen Kenny, Saint Patrick’s Athletic are improving in Europe in recent years and they reached the playoff round of the UEFA Europa Conference League last season. They are seeking to emulate Shamrock Rovers, who qualified for the league phase last year.
They now face a Hegelmann side that finished second in the 2024 Lithuanian A Lyga last season. They, with Andrius Skerla in the dugout, have only ever played in one European season and that came in the 2023/24 campaign when they were hammered 5-0 on aggregate by Shkupi in the first qualifying round of the UEFA Europa Conference League.
Hegelmann are trying to build a status in European competition, but St Pat’s Athletic have to be viewed as favourites for the tie and especially with home advantage in this leg.
