In their first European tie of the 2025/26 campaign, St Joseph’s pulled off an entertaining but hard-fought defeat of Northern Irish Premiership outfit Cliftonville in the first qualifying round of the UEFA Europa Conference League. In the first-leg of that tie, they shared an entertaining 2-2 draw at home before then edging past by three goals to two in the second-leg, with that 5-4 aggregate victory having seen Cliftonville having a player sent off in both legs.

They now face a Shamrock Rovers side that have a lot more European pedigree and even reached the knockout playoffs of this competition as recently as last season.

St Joseph’s may well have pulled off an upset in the previous round, but they showed their own limitations, and Shamrock Rovers are firm favourites for both legs this week.
