This match is being played at the neutral venue at Stadion Miejski im. H. Reymana w Krakowie in Krakow, Poland as a result of the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia preventing Shakhtar Donetsk from playing in Donbass or elsewhere in Ukraine.

Shakhtar Donetsk annihilated Finnish side Ilves Tampere by six goals to nil on aggregate in the UEFA Europa League before then entertainingly beating Besiktas. However, in the third qualifying round, they were beaten by Panathinaikos on penalties. They now face a Servette side that were also knocked out of the UEFA Europa League last week, suffering a 5-2 aggregate defeat to Eredivisie side Utrecht.

Servette will believe that, on neutral territory, they can take the game to Shakhtar, but the Ukrainians still have a lot of quality and they will be viewed as favourites.
