Santa Clara managed to come from behind to defeat Varazdin in their second qualifying round tie before they then hammered Larne in the third qualifying round. Portuguese sides have often struggled in European competition, but Santa Clara do have a remarkably unusual home advantage, but they have still seemed a little unconvincing.
Shamrock Rovers reached the knockout playoff round of the UEFA Europa Conference League last season and they will fancy their chances of being strong once again. They have reached this stage thanks to a 4-1 hammering of Ballkani in the third qualifying round in a game in which they were actually 1-0 down after the first-leg.
Santa Clara are the overwhelming favourites for this playoff round tie, but Shamrock Rovers will be confident of ensuring they can maintain a low-scoring encounter.
