Pau proved that their early-season form was no anomaly with an emphatic 29-27 victory over Stade Francais last time out but had their most recent match at Bayonne postponed, meaning any momentum gained from that success is likely lost now. Furthermore, they welcome a Clermont side desperately seeking a resurgence after losing four of their last five matches in all competitions. Back-to-back defeats in the Top 14 to Toulon and most recently Racing 92 have left them chasing points now and this match should see fireworks as a result. Pau can score well against anybody but often concede just as heavily and so this match going over 40 points looks almost assured. The result should swing Clermont’s way but given their recent woes there is the whiff of an upset here. Pick a side at your peril but this should be a hefty score-line.
