THE TEAM NEWS

CASTLEFORD TIGERS

  • Castleford Tigers’ miserable season plunged to a new low as they were on the receiving end of a hammering by Hull FC on Sunday and Daryl Powell’s side showed little to suggest that their slump is about to come to a halt.
  • The Tigers were beaten by the Black and Whites for the third time in the space of just over a month as they succumbed to the 48-6 defeat and they have now lost eight of their last nine matches in all competitions.
  • Cas are already without a number of players and that list has grown on the back of Sunday’s clash with Gareth O’Brien and Matt Cook out with injuries while Tyla Hepi copped a ban but Greg Eden and Derrell Olpherts are among those called up with Bailey Hodgson also in line to make his debut at fullback.

21-man squad: Blair, Eden, Fleming, Foster, Hodgson, Martin, Massey, McMeeken, McShane, Millington, Milner, Moors, Olpherts, O’Neill, Peachey, Richardson, Sanderson, Sene-Lefao, Shenton, Smith, Trueman

Unavailable: Sosaia Feki, Peter Mata’utia, Liam Watts, Oliver Holmes, George Griffin, James Clare, Tyla Hepi, Matt Cook, Gareth O’Brien

HULL KR

  • Hull KR ended their run of five consecutive losses in all competitions as they edged an extremely tight contest with Salford Red Devils last week, although they still have huge improvements to make.
  • Rovers came up against an under-strength Salford side as their opponents rested numerous players ahead of the Challenge Cup final and KR needed a last-gasp penalty on the hooter to seal the victory.
  • Tony Smith will hope that can be the catalyst for a run of improved results but he will be without Mitch Garbutt who has played his final game for the club because of injury but in better news for Rovers, Will Dagger is back in the squad after a four-week absence with a knee injury.

21-man squad: Abdull, Crooks, Dagger, Ellis, Gee, Hadley, Hauraki, Kenny-Dowall, King, Lawler, Lewis, Linnett, Maher, Milnes, Minchella, Mulhern, Murray, Parcell, Peteru, Rawsthorne, Trout

Unavailable: Mose Masoe, Adam Quinlan, Ethan Ryan, Greg Minikin, Jez Litten, Harvey Livett, Matty Storton, Ryan Brierley, Mitch Garbutt, Jimmy Keinhorst

THE PREDICTION

Castleford Tigers cannot wait for the season to end with head coach Daryl Powell declaring that before last week’s heavy loss to Hull FC. That defeat will have done little to improve his mood with his side now losing eight of their last nine matches in all competitions. They have not adapted to the restart having earned just one win and time is running out for them to improve on that figure. Hull KR have also struggled throughout the course of the season but did manage to earn a rare win in their latest outing. They overcame Salford Red Devils and while it was not a vintage performance, they can build on that and capitalise on Cas’ struggles by utilising their +10 start on the handicap.
