- Gold Coast Titans managed to claim the eighth and final spot in last season’s finals and almost pulled off an upset in their clash with Sydney Roosters but a botched effort in the final play of the game cost them the victory.
- It was a promising season for the Titans and a place in the finals will be their minimum requirement once again but the pressure will be on their youthful spine with AJ Brimson set to be their key man having switched from fullback to five-eighth.

Parramatta Eels will be hoping for a more consistent campaign in 2022 after falling away towards the back end of last year. They have made a few roster changes this year and have made some interesting selections for this round one clash with Gold Coast Titans, a side that will also line-up very differently to last year. It looks to be an intriguing matchup between two teams that finished in the finals last year and with the contest able to go either way, it makes sense to side with the Titans who are given a +12.5 start on the handicap.
