THE TEAM NEWS

BRISBANE BRONCOS

  • Brisbane Broncos produced another underwhelming performance as they suffered a second loss in succession with New Zealand Warriors comfortably defeating them last week and to make matters worse for Kevin Walters’ side, they must now deal with a couple of key injuries.
  • Five-eighth Albert Kelly will miss the majority of the season with a foot issue so Billy Walters is handed a crack in the run-on side while Patrick Carrigan is out for at least four games with a knee issue but in better news for the Broncos, Origin back-rower Kurt Capewell is fit enough to return.

Starting 13: Niu, Oates, Staggs, Farnworth, Cobbo, Walters, Reynolds, Palasia, Turpin, Haas, Capewell, Riki, Hetherington – Interchanges: James, Jensen, Robati, Paix – Reserves: Gamble, Kennedy, Lee, Hoeter, Pereira, Mam, Bayliss

Unavailable: Xavier Willison, Brendan Piakura, Albert Kelly, Patrick Carrigan, Thomas Flegler

SYDNEY ROOSTERS

  • Sydney Roosters put their horror show against South Sydney Rabbitohs behind them by getting the better of North Queensland Cowboys last week in what was a much better performance but there is still more to come from Trent Robinson’s side.
  • The head coach will return for this fixture after he was unable to travel last week following a positive COVID-19 test and after seeing a response from his side in the win over the Cowboys, he has opted to name the same 17 for this contest.

Starting 13: Tedesco, Tupou, Momirovski, Manu, Naiqama, Walker, Keary, Waerea-Hargreaves, Watson, Taukeiaho, N. Butcher, Tupouniua, Radley – Interchanges: Hutchison, Suluka-Fifita, Crichton, Collins – Reserves: Whyte, Atoni, Lam, Verrills, Keighran, Suaalii, Baker

Unavailable: Egan Butcher, Billy Smith

THE PREDICTION

Brisbane Broncos were poor in defeat to New Zealand Warriors last week and a repeat of that performance will see them come undone for the third game in-a-row. They take on a potentially dangerous Sydney Roosters outfit in this clash at Suncorp Stadium with the away side coming into this on the back of a comfortable win against North Queensland Cowboys last time out. The Roosters are to put in convincing back-to-back efforts so far this season but they can achieve that feat here and they can cover the -12 handicap against a Broncos side that look set to struggle once again.
