- North Queensland Cowboys had plenty of opportunities but they lacked a clinical edge to capitalise as they fell to a second successive loss to begin the campaign as St. George Illawarra Dragons got the better of them last week.
- The Cowboys finished the game with more of the ball, a higher completion rate and more metres than their opponents but the Dragons’ offloads caused problem and North Queensland failed to deal with their ball movement.

- Gold Coast Titans put their disappointing Round 1 performance behind them by overcoming Queensland rivals Brisbane Broncos in comfortable fashion last week and they will now look to compound the home team’s woes by claiming another win over a State rival.
- There is still more to come from the Titans but they will have been pleased with the efforts of star signing David Fifita who ran in for two of his side’s five tries against his former club while he also contributed with eight tackle busts.
THE PREDICTION
New North Queensland Cowboys head coach Todd Payten has a big job on his hands if he wants to get his side challenging for the top eight with some worrying signs despite the season only being two rounds in. His side had more than enough chances to defeat St. George Illawarra Dragons last week but they failed to take them and they have now also been forced into a change in the halves with the luckless Michael Morgan sidelined once again with a shoulder issue. Gold Coast Titans got off the mark in Round 2 with a comfortable win over Brisbane Broncos and if they can get early ball to the likes of David Fifita, the Titans should be able to exploit the Cowboys’ defence to make it back-to-back wins over Queensland rivals.
