- Gold Coast Titans received a lot of hype in the pre-season but they failed to live up to expectations in Round 1 as they put in a poor display with the ball with them succumbing to a very disappointing loss to New Zealand Warriors.
- The Titans failed to ask enough questions with the ball but on the few occasions they did, the Warriors’ strong defensive efforts were able to keep them at bay with Gold Coast limited to just a solitary try in the final ten minutes of the contest.

- Brisbane Broncos looked set to give new head coach Kevin Walters a dream start to his reign but it was a familiar feeling for last year’s wooden spoonists as they capitulated in the second half to blow a solid lead.
- The Broncos were leading 16-0 with 46 minutes on the clock but they allowed Parramatta Eels to score 24 unanswered points with Brisbane visibly tiring as the contest progressed and they were unable to stop the Eels rolling forward for 1,913 metres.
THE PREDICTION
This South East Queensland derby has been dubbed as a changing of the guard with many suspecting Gold Coast Titans could once again finish the competition as the best Queensland outfit this season but they will need to show a marked improvement of their efforts last week. They were poor in their loss to New Zealand Warriors, although Brisbane Broncos showed the same frailty as last season as they blew a 16-point lead in the second half at home to Parramatta Eels. Both will believe they have plenty of improvement in them on their respective performances last week but it is the Titans with arguably more to prove here and they can prevail on home soil to make it three straight wins over their rivals.
