In the third qualifying round of the UEFA Europa Conference League, Rosenborg defeated Swedish Allsvenskan outfit Hammarby by a goal to nil on aggregate in what was an extremely close contest. They have underperformed domestically, though, as they sit fifth in the Eliteserien after 18 matches of their 30-game campaign.
They face a Mainz side that were the overachievers in the Bundesliga last season, with in-demand and highly-rated coach Bo Henriksson at the helm. They finished sixth in the Bundesliga last year and only got knocked into the UEFA Europa Conference League as a result of Stuttgart going on to surprisingly win the DFB-Pokal.
Rosenborg will fancy their chances of keeping things tight against a Mainz side yet to play competitive football this season, but Mainz remain slight favourites for this one.
