The repechage of UEFA competitions means that these two sides suffered defeats in the first qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League, but have both found themselves sliding into the third-tier of European competition instead this month.
Slovenian champions Olimpija Ljubljana began their European campaign with a frustrating defeat to Kairat Almaty, of Kazakhstan. They shared a 1-1 draw in Slovenia before suffering a 2-0 loss in the return leg away from home. Inter Club, on the other hand, put up a decent fight against Romanian champions FCSB, with a 3-1 loss in Bucharest being followed by a surprise 2-1 victory in the home leg.
Inter Club will believe that their performances against FCSB mark them out as a competitive force in this competition, and they should pose issues for Olimpija.
