Nicolas Mejia qualified for the event after two straight set victories. He has a title to his name this season, after winning the Savannah Challenger in late April. His record on hard courts is less impressive, but he did make a quarter-final on the surface in Bengaluru in late February.
His opponent will be Nishesh Basavareddy in the first-round. The 20-year-old has not competed in over two weeks, after losing to fellow American youngster Learner Tien in straight sets at Wimbledon in the first-round. He has struggled for form recently and hasn’t reached the heights of early January, when he won five matches in a row to reach the semi-finals of the Auckland Classic.
