THE TEAM NEWS
TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers booked their spot in the next round of the play-offs with a relatively comfortable victory over Washington Football Team, although they were given a late scare.
- The Buccaneers took the lead with just over three minutes of play on the clock and stayed in front for the rest of the contest despite Washington narrowing the gap to just five points in the closing stages of the game.
- QB Tom Brady showed his class with 381 passing yards and he will be hoping to get the better of fellow veteran Drew Brees who will be lining up under center for the Saints.
NEW ORLEANS SAINTS
- New Orleans Saints overcame the challenge of Chicago Bears to book their spot in the Divisional Round and despite not producing big numbers on offense, the Saints contained their opponents superbly.
- The Saints restricted the Bears to a solitary field goal until the final drive of the match when the contest was already beyond Chicago and it could be their defensive efforts that determine this clash with Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
- Despite their success last week, the Saints have suffered a couple of injury blows with backup QB Taysom Hill and RB Latavius Murray likely to be sidelined and that will have an impact on New Orleans’ ability to change up their offense.
THE PREDICTION
New Orleans Saints and Tampa Bay Buccaneers face-off in a mouth-watering Divisional Round clash between the two NFC South teams. Both teams boast serious weapons on offense but both are strong defensively too which sets this clash up nicely. Two future Hall of Famers line-up under center Tom Brady and Drew Brees to add further intrigue to this clash, especially as this could be the latter’s final game of his career with rumours swirling that he will retire at the end of the season. The Saints are likely to be without a couple of important offensive options for this clash but it should not deter them in the Superdome and home advantage can prove to be the difference here with New Orleans able to edge a thriller to complete a clean sweep of victories over the Bucs this season having won both matchups during the regular season.
