TERRANCE MCKINNEY VS BRENDON MAROTTE LOWDOWN
Terrance McKinney (14-6) bounced back in style after suffering two finishes in a row. After swallowing Ismael Bonfim’s (2023) ferocious flying knee at UFC 283, he then got submitted six months later by Nazim Sadykhov. Struggling to accept the loss and desperate to get back in the cage, he stepped up on short notice to fight Mike Breeden less than a month later. It paid off as he walked away with a ruthless first-round knockout to go 4-3 in the UFC.
He was preparing to fight Chris Duncan who could not make the flight due to visa issues. This has given Brendon Marotte (8-1) the opportunity to make his UFC debut. He has built his record under the CES MMA and Combat Zone banners. He took three years off after his split decision win over Dan Dubuque (2020) but has not shown any rust on his return knocking out Dion Rubio and submitting Lionel Young this year for Combat Zone.

McKinney is obviously a hefty favourite, but we all know the dangers a debutant with nothing to lose possesses. Marotte also only has one loss to his name and continues to improve at just 26 years old.
He is also a natural finisher and all McKinney’s losses have come via knockout and submission. That said, it remains to be seen whether Marotte is near the calibre of McKinney’s previous opponents.
We still expect McKinney to approach this in his usual aggressive way. He will have the speed, power and wrestling advantage which should be enough. Marotte is very tough and is also a very good striker, so if McKinney can mix in his wrestling, he should be able to take complete control of the fight.
The only way McKinney loses this is if he gets clipped in a brawl or gasses out early hunting a finish. If he is patient and and sets up takedowns with his striking, he should be able to control Marotte on the ground and even set up a submission.
