PIERA RODRIGUEZ VS CYNTHIA CALVILLO LOWDOWN
The former Invicta strawweight champion Piera Rodriguez (9-1) announced herself onto the UFC scene in 2022. Coming off a Contender Series win over Valesca Machado (2021), she earnt two more unanimous decisions over Kay Hansen and Sam Hughes to extend her unbeaten record. However, she then ran into Gillian Robertson (2023) who snatched her arm in a second-round submission.
Cynthia Calvillo’s (9-6-1) form fell off a cliff. Her only loss up until 2020 was to the former two-time champion Carla Esparza (2017). She is now on a bleak five-fight skid. She lost a unanimous decision to Katlyn Cerminara (2020) before getting TKO’d by Jessica Andrade (2021) and Andrea Lee (2021). She then gave a better account of herself against Nina Nunes (2022) and Loopy Godinez (2023) but lost split decisions.

We never saw a five-fight skid coming for Calvillo who is a quality boxer with solid wrestling. She has fought high calibre competition, but she never seems to know how to execute a strategy based on her strengths.
If she can enforce a pressure and suffocate Rodriguez with her wrestling, she has a great chance of halting the skid. If she remains a sizeable underdog, she is worth a punt, but it is incredibly tough to back someone who cannot buy a win.
