ALEXANDER HERNANDEZ VS BILL ALGEO LOWDOWN
It is fair to say Alexander Hernandez’s (14-6) ceiling is lower than everyone thought after his first two UFC fights. Since those two dubs, he has fought nine times and failed to string two wins together. 2022 was his worse year suffering two defeats and getting finished both times. He got submitted by Renato Moicano and then TKO’d by Billy Quarantillo. However, he is coming off a much-needed win – a unanimous decision over Jim Miller back in February at UFC Fight Night 219.
Bill Algeo (17-7) has also found it tough to compile any streaks since joining the big time in 2020. 2022 was a much better year for him kicking it off with a unanimous decision over Joanderson Brito handing him his sole loss in 16 fights and breaking Herbert Burns forcing him to quit. He then fell short in a split decision with Andre Fili but is already back in the win column with a submission over TJ Brown back in April.
ALEXANDER HERNANDEZ VS BILL ALGEO PREDICTION
This should be a frenetic scrap with a mixture of striking and grappling. Both are very skilled, but inconsistent, especially Hernandez which makes this difficult to predict.
Algeo has better cardio and jiu-jitsu whereas Hernandez is more explosive with better wrestling. Importantly, Hernandez drops back down to featherweight which did not go well against Billy Quarantillo. His durability took a hit in the weight cut and ended up getting TKO’d in the second round.
If the weight cut goes smoothly, he will be a severe threat in the first round. However, if Algeo weathers the early storm, his cardio can enable him to put it on Hernandez as the fight goes on.
This is close to call, so the value is on the underdog, but we are backing the more durable natural 145 pounder.
