ANTHONY JOSHUA: AJ CONTINUES PATH TO REDEMPTION
Anthony Joshua returns to the heavyweight stage and will relish the opportunity to fight at Wembley once again after his last two fights took place in Saudi Arabia. Ever since his back-to-back losses against Oleksandr Usyk, Joshua has rebuilt his confidence and returned to his destructive best.
Folks may look to the quality of fighter he has faced since then and none are as good as Dubois in fairness. He has been ruthless in what he has had to do however and those four victories will have served to boost his confidence. The dominant and devastating knockout win over Francis Ngannou – especially after the former Cameroonian UFC heavyweight champion caused Tyson Fury so many problems – was like watching AJ of old and he will be looking to build further on this latest run of wins.
DANIEL DUBOIS: UNDERDOG LOOKING TO TAKE GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY
Daniel Dubois is a fighter that is clearly benefitting himself from having come through some adversity just like AJ and is improving because of it. Dubois can arguably take more solace from his loss to Usyk than AJ can across his two fights as he really pushed the Ukrainian and appeared to have him in a spot of trouble at one point. He has since stopped both Jerrell Miller and Filip Hrgovic; arguably higher quality opponents than those AJ has faced.
This is unquestionably the biggest fight and biggest stage that Dubois has fought on and while he has fought the likes of Uysk, he is going to have to overcome any nerves quickly on this stage. He has had some big fights but nothing as grandiose as the scale he will experience at Wembley on Saturday night.
The one thing that does favour him however is that he simply has nothing to lose and in that respect, all the pressure is on Joshua. A win here will catapult him into heavyweight division folklore.
ANTHONY JOSHUA VS DANIEL DUBOIS PREDICTION
This really does have that big fight appeal to it as it is not only an all-British affair at Wembley but it is one where both fighters have legitimate routes to victory.
AJ simply has to be preferred based on how he has looked in recent fights. He is fighting without fear once again and that destructive side that we saw so often when he was building his career, has returned. That makes him incredibly dangerous but will also see him take more risks than he was doing for a period of time after the stunning Ruiz loss.
That is the one factor that means Dubois has as good a punchers’ chance as anybody and he certainly possesses the power to trouble AJ.
AJ should be completely on his game however and it is hard to imagine that there is any hint of complacency with him now. There’s bigger prizes for AJ to achieve after this fight but history tells him he cannot ease off the gas in the slightest.
That is what likely sees him win the fight and shuts the door on Dubois causing the upset. It is hard to see this going close to the distance, and we expect a stoppage between rounds seven and nine.
TIP: ANTHONY JOSHUA TO WIN BY KO/TKO
