Marta Kostyuk’s strong season continued as she reached her second Grand Slam semi-final in succession at Wimbledon. However, the Ukrainian missed out on the opportunity of a maiden major final as she was beaten in straight sets by Linda Noskova. Kostyuk has won 21 of her last 23 matches, and she is now ranked 11 in the world, a career best.
She received a bye in the first-round and now faces Katherine Sebov. The Canadian delighted the home crowd as she beat Aoi Ito in straight sets to set up a meeting with Kostyuk. Sebov broke on four occasions as she won 6-3 6-4.
After producing some stellar results on clay and grass over the past few months, Kostyuk will hope to reproduce that level on the hard courts. She has already reached a final on the surface this season, finishing runner-up at the Brisbane International, and she is the clear favourite to win this match.
