Mikael Ymer vs Botic van de Zandschulp prediction
Mikael Ymer has been handed a wildcard in order to compete in his home tournament. The Swede reached a high of 52 in the world two years ago but is now ranked outside the top 600 due to his 18 month ban for doping. He returned to the sport in January, but he has struggled to make any kind of a breakthrough, aside from winning his first event back on the ITF World Tennis Tour at M25 Esch/Alzette. He did reach another final last month in Varnamo, his first decent showing on clay this season.
His opponent will be Botic van de Zandschulp. The Dutchman achieved his best result of the season last week after a quarter-final finish in Braunschweig on the Challenger Tour. He has struggled to find any kind of consistency for much of the season.
Ymer leads the head-to-head 3-1 and 1-0 on clay. He will be fired up for this one, on his full singles return to the ATP Tour and in front of a home crowd. He may be the underdog, but he has beaten Van de Zandschulp in the past and the Dutchman’s big serve is likely to be neutralised on the clay.
We back Ymer to win this and come out on top.
