Josh Rock's play-off hopes had looked dead and buried for some time but last week's quarter-final defeat to Luke Humphries mathematically confirmed it.

It's been a tough road for Rock in his debut year in the competition, and he is the only participant who hasn't made a final in the 2026 Premier League. The Northern Irishman reached the quarter-finals of a Players Championship event on Tuesday, but crashed out in the first hurdle on Wednesday with a 77 average.

Gian van Veen also entered the double-header in Leicester, without making much of an impact, but is very much in the reckoning to make the Premier League play-offs.

The Dutchman does have work to do though, especially after his opening round exit in Leeds last week, and failure to win this game could spell the end of his top-four aspirations.

In this battle between the two debutants, it is Van Veen we fancy more, with the World Championship runner-up having adapted the better of the two to this competition.
