Luke Humphries ramped up his average to 96.83 in a 5-3 victory over James Wade to reach the final. It was the first time all season that he’s dropped sets in a match, which underlines how dominant ‘Cool Hand’ has been. Awaiting him in the final is Gerwyn Price, who overcame Nathan Aspinall in the last four despite recording his lowest average of the tournament so far at a click under 90.00.
This will be Humphries’ fourth consecutive World Grand Prix final, but he has only won one of those. He’s been hot and cold so far during this year’s competition when it comes to scoring but his doubles on the whole have been very good and if he can replicate what we saw from him in the semi-finals, then he stands a great chance.
Gerwyn Price has played consistently good darts throughout his run at the World Grand Prix and has been in good form over the past few months, reaching the World Darts Matchplay final. He was beaten comprehensively by Luke Littler in that one. Littler has also been the scourge of Humphries in major finals and playing a different opponent should give him a jolt of confidence.
Whilst you would expect this final to be a close one rather than a blowout, Humphries has huge motivation having fallen at this stage of the World Grand Prix in each of the last two years. He also won the US Darts Masters back in late June, saving his best darts for the final. Therefore, consider backing Humphries to narrowly get the better of Price to claim the trophy.
