Iga Swiatek vs Liudmila Samsonova prediction
Iga Swiatek overcame a difficult start to beat Clara Tauson 6-4 6-1 and reach the quarter-finals of Wimbledon for the second time in her career. Tauson went 3-1 up in the first set but the four-time French Open winner then began to dominate proceedings, as she won 11 of the next 13 service games to seal a comfortable win in the end.
She will face Liudmila Samsonova in the last eight. The Russian battled past Jessica Bouzas Maneiro in her round-of-16 match, winning 7-5 7-5. Bouzas Maneiro served for the first set a 5-4 but Samsonova saved two set points and then reeled off three straight games to take a crucial lead. More breaks were traded in set two, but the world number 19 came out on top once more to reach the quarter-final of a slam for the first time.
This is their first match on grass but Swiatek leads the head-to-head 4-0 and easily defeated Samsonova 6-4 6-1 in the fourth-round of the US Open last year, which was their most recent encounter. Swiatek seems to be putting together a strong run of form on the grass and will be expected to reach the semi-finals at SW19 for the first time in her career.
