KEY FACTORS
- The Ebor Handicap is the feature race of the 2019 Ebor Festival and it should be an enthralling race with a 22-runner field set to battle it out for the £600,000 prize money for first place.
- John Gosden enjoyed a 1-2 in this race last year and with a winner on each of the three days during the Ebor Festival so far, he will hope to continue that run with another first place from either of his runners Weekender or Ben Vrackie in this one.
- A wide draw has not been a deterrent in this race in the past with six of the last seven winners coming from stall 15 or higher and that could be good news for some of the well-fancied horses with Baghdad (18), King’s Advice (19) and Ben Vrackie (22) all receiving wide draws.
ANALYSIS
This is an extremely competitive and high-quality handicap field thanks to the increased prize money on offer this year. There are plenty of likeable sorts such as Withhold who is unbeaten in this class but a 6lb rise from his last run could be too much whilst Ben Vrackie should be in the mix but Baghdad makes most appeal with the Frankel colt likely to benefit from the longer trip.
