In the first-leg of their UEFA Europa Conference League first qualifying round tie in the Republic of Ireland last week, Saint Partrick’s Athletic edged past Hegelmann by a goal to nil to give themselves a lead to defend in Lithuania this week. They snatched an advantage in the 81st minute thanks to a late penalty scored by former Cheltenham Town attacker Aidan Keena.
Under the management of former Ireland boss Stephen Kenny, the Irish will be seeking to emulate the record 13 British and Irish sides that made it into the league phase of UEFA competitions last season.
Hegelmann have proven themselves to be capable of limiting St Pat’s to few chances, and another low-scoring and tense encounter would appear likely for this one.
