Key stats

  • Guatemala have lost only two of their last 14 World Cup qualifying matches (W8 D4).
  • Panama are unbeaten in the last 14 international matches between these teams (W11 D3), since a 2-1 home win for Guatemala in World Cup qualifying in August 2005.
  • Panama are unbeaten in their last nine World Cup qualifying matches with six wins and three draws.
  • Panama have conceded a total of just three goals in their last nine World Cup qualifying matches.

Guatemala vs Panama prediction

In Group A, Suriname sit at the top of the group above Panama on goal difference, and a point ahead of Guatemala, three clear of El Salvador with two games to go in the group.

Guatemala come into this one on the back of edging past El Salvador by a goal to nil last month, a few days after they had shared a 1-1 draw with Suriname. Their four games have consisted of six goals. Panama perhaps have a better squad than the one that qualified for their first ever FIFA World Cup in 2018. The Panamanians are struggling to get over the line in this group, though.

Panama have been improving for a couple of years and performed well in the CONCACAF Nations League but they are better on the counter-attack, which isn’t required in this group and another low-scoring encounter appears likely.

Guatemala vs Panama tip: Panama to win & under 3.5 goals
