Gian van Veen vs Wessel Nijman prediction
It certainly wasn't vintage Gian van Veen in the first round, with the world number three averaging just 93.55 against Krzysztof Ratajski, but it was good enough for a 10-6 win against the Polish Eagle.
Van Veen has been struggling for confidence recently, and health issues have certainly played a part in that, but a 160 finish and a pair of 144 checkouts will certainly do his belief no harm.
He will face up-and-coming countryman Wessel Nijman, who began his campaign with a 10-5 triumph over Dave Chisnall.
Nijman has won eight PDC titles this year, all coming on either the European and Players Championship tour, and a victory over fellow Dutchman Van Veen would be a huge step in his quest to translate his A-game to the biggest of stages.
We fancy him to do just that; Van Veen isn't at his best right now, while Nijman is a growing force in the sport and has the ability to seize his opportunity here.
