Korea Republic have appeared at the FIFA World Cup™ more times than any other Asian nation. The 2026 edition will mark their 12th overall participation and 11th consecutive appearance, having last missed out in 1982.
The fourth-place finish achieved by Korea Republic in 2002 is still the best showing by an Asian team in FIFA World Cup™ history. On their run to the semi-finals, they famously overcame Italy and Spain in the round of 16 and quarter-finals respectively before losing to Germany.
Six of Korea Republic’s seven wins at the global showpiece have come against European teams. Most recently, they defeated Portugal 2-1 in their opening fixture at Qatar 2022.
The Taegeuk Warriors were the only Asian team to complete their FIFA World Cup 26™ qualifying campaign without losing a match. In total, they won 11 and drew five of their 16 games.
