- Congo DR have qualified FIFA World Cup™ for the second time, 52 years after their debut appearance at the 1974 finals, when they competed under the name Zaire. At that time, only two African nations had previously featured at the tournament: Egypt in 1934 and Morocco in 1970.
- Their maiden campaign ended after the group stage with defeats to Scotland (2-0), Yugoslavia (9-0) and then-reigning champions Brazil (3-0).
- The Leopards overcame Jamaica 1-0 in extra-time in the FIFA Play-Off Tournament final to secure their spot in the FIFA World Cup 26 thanks to a goal from Axel Tuanzebe.
