A crucial goal against Senegal by Yoane Wissa made it look as though DR Congo may well beat the African giants to automatically qualify for the FIFA World Cup but they instead had to go through two tough playoffs against Nigeria and Cameroon before an Inter-Confederation defeat of Jamaica in March – games in which Wissa could not feature after an injury-plagued start to his Newcastle United career.
