We match up a current Man Utd player in Matheus Cunha (£8.0m) with a former Man Utd player in Anthony Elanga (£7.0m), comparing their respective 2024-25 records to determine which FPL asset would be the better acquisition.

Having moved from Wolves to Man Utd in the summer transfer window, Matheus Cunha will be looking to at least replicate if not exceeded his FPL numbers from last season. If the Brazilian does manage to do that, then he will prove a highly valuable FPL asset, especially being listed as a midfielder.

In 2024-25, Cunha registered 15 goals and seven assists for Wolves with a 14.0 xGI (expected goal involvements) and a massive 41 bonus points. Cunha ended the season with 178 FPL points, 25 more than Anthony Elanga, who did record four more assists whilst at Nottingham Forest, but managed less than half of Cunha’s goal tally.

Elanga has also moved clubs this summer, joining Newcastle Utd from Notts Forest. He was excellent for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side, accumulating 17 attacking returns with an xGI of 9.9. But those offensive numbers don’t compare to Cunha, whose listing as a midfielder in FPL this season is a gamechanger. This specifically, makes Cunha a smart play ahead of Elanga.

Verdict: Matheus Cunha (£8.0m)
