THE LOWDOWN

SEVILLA

For a second successive season, Sevilla have required three managers in this campaign to eventually steady the ship and move away from the bottom three and the relegation places. The Andalusians have enjoyed some impressive recent form as they begin the weekend sitting nine points clear of the danger zone with 21 points to play for.

Quique Sanchez Flores, who followed the sackings of Jose Luis Mendilibar and Diego Alonso earlier this season, oversaw an impressive 2-0 defeat of Las Palmas in the Canary Islands last weekend via goals from Youssef En-Nesyri and Dodi Lukebakio. Sevilla have suffered just two defeats in their last ten matches in La Liga.

REAL MALLORCA

Off the back of reaching the final of the Copa del Rey and losing to Athletic Club on penalties at La Cartuja in Seville, Real Mallorca put in another steady and impressive performance in their most recent outing but again fell to defeat last weekend. The Balearic Islanders hosted champions-elect Real Madrid and were beaten by a goal to nil.

Aurelien Tchouameni scored a 48th minute winning goal in that game to keep Mallorca in La Liga’s relegation battle. They begin this weekend sitting just six points outside of the bottom three and the relegation places after just one win in their last four league games. Javier Aguirre’s side have been reactive and fairly dull to watch throughout the campaign.

REAL MALLORCA

Real Mallorca have no injury issues or suspension concerns for this weekend’s trip to Andalusia so they will be able to name an unchanged eleven.

THE PREDICTION

It is not a great build-up in terms of building anticipation and excitement but it is at least honest to say this one has the potential to be incredibly tedious for the neutral. Sevilla’s improvement in their form under Quique Sanchez Flores has been build upon a steady defensive style of football with a flat back five. Mallorca, with Javier Aguirre, have occasionally taken that style and system to the extreme, albeit with effectiveness, in the last couple of years. Sevilla should come out on top at home but a low-scoring affair is expected regardless.

TIP: SEVILLA TO WIN & UNDER 3.5 GOALS
