THE LOWDOWN
ALMERIA
Almeria gained promotion to the top-flight of Spanish football in 2022, avoided relegation on the final day of the season in 2023 but look almost certain, already, to be returning down to the second-tier. The Andalusians begin the weekend sitting rock-bottom in La Liga after a genuinely horrible start to the campaign.
The hosts come into this on the back of a slender 1-0 loss to an Alaves side that have also been struggling after they gained promotion via the playoffs last season. That was their fourth successive defeat in La Liga and they have so far had three draws with nine defeats and remain the only side without a win in the league.
REAL SOCIEDAD
As one of the most intense pressing sides in European football, Real Sociedad have made a frustrating habit of starting fast and then falling away quite dramatically in the second-half of a campaign. The Basque club have once again started well with impressive performances in both La Liga and the UEFA Champions League.
La Real’s 3-1 hammering of Benfica in midweek means that they have suffered just three defeats in 18 matches across all competitions so far this season. However, a 1-0 loss at home to Barcelona continued a little bit of rocky form in the league with just one victory in their last four matches in the top-flight.
THE TEAM NEWS
ALMERIA
There are a few injury concerns for the hosts, such as Alex Centelles and Luis Suarez, but nothing fresh so they could remain unchanged.
PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Maximiano; Mendes, Chumi, Gonzalez, Akieme; Lopy, Robertone; Puigmal, Melero, Ramazani; Baptistao
UNAVAILABLE: Kone (Injured), Suarez (Injured), Pubill (Injured), Svidersky (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE: Centelles (Injured)
REAL SOCIEDAD
Real Sociedad have several issues with Ivan Zubeldia and Brais Mendez both suspended, whilst Jon Pacheco, Ham Traore and Andre Silva are all missing due to injury.
PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Alex Remiro; Elustondo, Gonzalez, Le Normand, Munoz; Turrientes, Zubimendi, Merino; Kubo, Oyarzabal, Barrenetxea
UNAVAILABLE: Zubeldia (Suspended), Mendez (Suspended), Traore (Injured), Pacheco (Injured), Silva (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE: Tierney (Injured), Merquelanz (Injured)
THE PREDICTION
Bottom-of-the-table Almeria remain winless and even went 3-0 up against fellow Andalusian strugglers Granada but they couldn’t get over the line. Their defensive issues have underlined the struggle throughout the campaign with 32 goals conceded in their 12 matches. They now face a Real Sociedad side that have stuttered a little of late but remain one of the strongest teams in the country and should be the next team to put Almeria to the sword.
BETTING TIP: REAL SOCIEDAD TO WIN
