THE LOWDOWN
ALMERIA
Almeria gained promotion to the top-flight at the end of the 2021/22 season, eventually finishing as the Segunda’s runners’ up. They ended up finishing just outside of the bottom three and the relegation places in 2023, with a final day escape in a competitive relegation battle. They then lost their star forward, El Bilal Toure, over the summer transfer window.
After ten matches of the 2023/24 La Liga campaign, the Andalusians are the only winless team in Spain’s top-flight. They have shared three draws with seven defeats so far, conceding 29 goals in that time. They returned from the international break last week with a 5-2 hammering at the hands of Girona in Catalonia last weekend.
LAS PALMAS
Under the management of former Barcelona youth coach, Garcia Pimienta, Las Palmas gained promotion last season to La Liga as, like their opponents, runners’ up. They, with that Barcelona influence, are intent on playing a more easy on the eye style of football but have consistently struggled for goals.
They have managed to score just six goals in their ten matches so far this season and five of those goals have come in their last five matches with four in three. However, their form has very much turned around after a slow start and they have won three games in five, albeit their most recent outing was a 1-0 defeat at home to Rayo Vallecano.

THE PREDICTION
These are two sides that are expected to be down at the bottom end of La Liga, struggling against relegation for much of the campaign with neither team looking overly convincing, despite the visitors being in a far superior position. Almeria will be believe if they are going to win any game this season, if not when at 3-0 at home to rivals Granada, then it will be against a newly-promoted team at home. However, even with Las Palmas’ scoring woes, they will feel they are capable of scoring against a leaky defence. Both teams scoring, a rarity for the away team, appears a good value bet for this one.
