PSG considering new contract for Kylian Mbappe

Reportedly, PSG are planning to offer Kylian Mbappe a new contract, despite the fact that he may well turn it down. Following the conclusion of last season, Mbappe informed the club of his intention to leave on a free transfer in 2024. This decision was naturally met with immediate opposition from PSG, who had hoped to secure at least a one-year extension to their marquee player.

This led to a stalemate, resulting in Mbappe's exclusion from the first-team squad until he was eventually reintegrated at the start of the current campaign. Since then, the Frenchman has made a strong impression, scoring eight goals in nine appearances, with all but one of these goals coming in Ligue 1.

Despite this, there continues to be speculation that Mbappe will sign with Real Madrid in July, as he will be officially permitted to engage in pre-contract discussions in January. Allegedly, PSG have not given up hope of extending Mbappe's contract in some form, even if it's just until 2025. It has been reported that a one-year extension will be offered to Mbappe as early as next week, with hopes of positive negotiations.

Should Mbappe decline these terms, PSG appear to be prepared to accept the loss in their efforts to retain him in the long run. As PSG couldn't make significant investments in a new striker during the last transfer window, President Florentino Perez is expected to approve a replacement for Karim Benzema by the end of the 2023-24 season. Currently, Joselu, on loan from Espanyol, is filling the void and has already contributed with five goals and two assists in all competitions, although he is not thought to be a long-term solution.

While it's possible that Los Blancos might retain the 33-year-old's services, it is widely anticipated that Mbappe will be the top priority for their forward position. This would allow Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo to return to their respective flanks, rather than being deployed as a front two, as they have occasionally been this season.
