THE LOWDOWN

SPORTING BRAGA

Under the management of Carlos Carvalhal, playing a self-proclaimed ‘formation-less’ style of football, Sporting Braga had been fun to watch and much-improved but after his departure in 2022, Artur Jorge has taken over and put his own imprint onto the Braga style and they have continued their improvement.

After finishing in the top three and earning UEFA Champions League qualification last season, the home team have remained strong, albeit struggling slightly to cope with the extra intense matches in Europe. They come into this on the back of a 1-1 draw with Casa Pia in the group stages of the Taca da Liga during the week. They have suffered just one defeat in six matches across all competitions.

PORTIMONENSE

After the eighth game of last season, Portimonense badly struggled and were struggling throughout. They only just finished above the bottom three by the end of the campaign and the visitors came into this season expecting to struggle throughout the campaign this time around – potentially even being in that bottom three.

The visitors began the season with back-to-back hammerings at the hands of both Boavista and Gil Vicente in their opening two matches. However, since then, they have suffered just two defeats in seven matches which has allowed them to move themselves into the top-half of the table ahead of this weekend’s round of fixtures.

THE TEAM NEWS

SPORTING BRAGA

Sporting Braga have, more or less, a fully fit and available squad for this weekend’s encounter but they will be without Victor Gomez for this one, who is a doubt.

THE PREDICTION

As was the case under the management of Carlos Carvalhal and now, again, under Artur Jorge; Sporting Braga have been one of the more entertaining teams to watch in European football with their style of football and general intensity. Their nine matches have consisted of 40 goals and they are the top scorers in the division with 23. Portimonense have improved but remain major underdogs, especially away from home, for a game that could end up being another high-scoring encounter.

BETTING TIP: BRAGA TO WIN & OVER 2.5 GOALS
