THE LOWDOWN

TORINO

Despite Ivan Juric’s intention being that he implements a progressive and passing, easy on the eye style of football, Torino have been one of the more reactive and duller teams to watch in Serie A this season with just 28 goals scored in their 29 matches. Only three teams, Hellas Verona, Empoli and Salernitana, have managed to notch fewer than that.

The Piedmont-based club, they come into this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting firmly in the middle-of-the-table. They come into this one on the back of a much-needed 2-0 defeat of Udinese in their most recent outing in Friuli a couple of weeks ago after a four-match winless run of form prior to that victory.

MONZA

Monza, despite the death of Silvio Berlusconi, remain an ambitious club that will be attempting to achieve European qualification sooner rather than later, despite the fact they only gained promotion to Serie A for the first time ever in 2022. They went into the March international break on the back of back-to-back victories.

The first of those wins saw them nearly blow a two-goal lead against Genoa before Daniel Maldini scored a 79th minute winning goal. Maldini, the son of Paolo, then stepped up and scored an excellent 42nd minute free-kick against in-form to Cagliari to mean they begin the match day sitting tucked inside the top-half of Serie A.

THE TEAM NEWS

TORINO

Serbian international midfielder Ivan Ilic is missing through injury with both Koffi Djidji and Adrien Tameze doubtful for the clash with Monza.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-1-2): Milinkovic-Savic; Sazonov, Buongiorno, Masina; Bellanova, Linetty, Gineitis, Rodriguez; Vlasic; Pellegri, Zapata

UNAVAILABLE: Ilic (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Djidji (Injured), Tameze (Injured), N’Guessan (Injured)

MONZA

Papu Gomez remains suspended due to doping, whilst Warren Bondo is suspended due to too many yellow cards. Samuele Vignato is also unavailable as he is injured.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Di Gregorio; Birindelli, Izzo, Mari, Carboni; Popovic, Akpa-Akpro; Colpani, Pessina, Mota; Duric

UNAVAILABLE: Gomez (Suspended), Bondo (Suspended), Vignato (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: D’Ambrosio (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Both of these sides are arguably overperforming general pre-season expectations and yet they remain a frustrating watch for the neutral. The two teams head into the final couple months of the campaign with the chance of finishing in the top eight and earning UEFA Europa Conference League qualification at least but it is their defences that are likely to come out on top in this one as they have combined for just 60 goals so far this season.

TIP: UNDER 2.5 GOALS
