It has been a miserable campaign for Salernitana as they head into the final eight games of the 2023/24 season sitting rock-bottom in the Serie A table with just two victories all season. They are 11 points adrift of safety and come into this one on the back of being annihilated by three goals to nil by Bologna last week on Easter Monday.
The home team are onto their fourth manager of the campaign with Stefano Colantuano replacing Fabio Liverani after the previous sackings of Paulo Sousa and Filippo Inzaghi. Only Empoli have scored fewer than the 22 goals that they have managed this season, whilst the 62 they have let in is the most of any team in Serie A.
SASSUOLO
Under the management of Alessio Dionisi, Sassuolo significantly underperformed throughout the season and they sunk badly into the Serie A relegation battle before taking the decision to replace Dionisi with Davide Ballardini but it hasn’t helped them much as they remain firmly in the bottom three ahead of this match day.
Sassuolo come into this one on the back of a 1-1 draw with Udinese in their most recent outing with Gregoire Defrel scoring in the 41st minute before Florian Thauvin equalised just before half-time. That draw means Sassuolo have now managed just one win in their last 11 matches in Serie A as they begin the weekend sitting a point adrift of Frosinone.
