THE LOWDOWN
ROMA
Heading into the third season of a Jose Mourinho reign, all of the signs were there that Roma would be likely to implode as the former Chelsea, Inter and Real Madrid boss continued to rage against a machine that seemed relatively non-specific. They started the season slowly before a gradual improvement in performances and results.
The capital city club come into this on the back of a 1-0 defeat to Internazionale in their most recent outing, last weekend. The home team had enjoyed three successive victories before that but their poor start to the season means they sit firmly in the middle-of-the-table after a couple of months of underwhelming underperformance.
LECCE
Following promotion to Serie A again in 2022, Lecce performed impressively and comfortably survived playing some impressive football and genuinely hurting some of the bigger teams in the league. They, though, did lose their manager, Marco Baroni, to Hellas Verona over the summer and were expected to decline, as they have done after a bright start.
The visitors started the season with three victories and two draws in their opening five matches, following the appointment of former Benevento coach, Roberto D’Aversa, over the summer. However, since then, they have collected just two points from their next five matches as they sit in mid-table.
THE TEAM NEWS
ROMA
Leandro Paredes is suspended for this weekend, whilst the likes of Leonardo Spinazzola, Tammy Abraham and Marash Kumbulla are all injured, too.
PREDICTED XI (3-5-2): Patricio; Mancini, Diego Llorente, Ndicka; Kristensen, Cristante, Aouar, Bove, Zalewski; Faraone, Lukaku
UNAVAILABLE: Paredes (Suspended), Spinazzola (Injured), Abraham (Injured), Kumbulla (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE: Pellegrini (Injured), Smalling (Injured)
LECCE
Lecce are definitely without a couple of injured players for this weekend, including Alexis Blin. Kevin Dermaku is also a doubt for this weekend against Roma.
PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Falcone; Gendrey, Pongracic, Baschirotto, Gallo; Rafia, Ramadani, Gonzalez; Almqvist, Krstovic, Banda
UNAVAILABLE: Blin (Injured), Corfitzen (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE: Dermaku (Injured)
THE PREDICTION
The mood of both of these clubs is likely to be fairly low with Roma sitting outside of the top seven and the European spots, whilst Lecce sit simply in mid-table after a really poor run of form of late. The hosts have scored 20 goals in ten matches so far this season with 11 of those goals coming in just two games. Lecce will head to Stadio Olimpico and try to get after Roma but a comfortable home win remains likely.
BETTING TIP: ROMA TO WIN
