THE LOWDOWN
LECCE
Lecce gained promotion in 2022, performed well to comfortably avoid relegation but a change in manager means they have started relatively slowly overall so far this season. It had been a bright start to the campaign but the hosts now begin the weekend’s round of fixtures sitting in the bottom-half.
Under the management of Roberto D’Aversa, Lecce come into this on the back of a 2-1 defeat away to Roma in their most recent outing, last weekend. The hosts are now winless in their last seven matches across all competitions, including a defeat to Serie B side Parma in the second round of the Coppa Italia the other week.
AC MILAN
AC Milan endured a difficult campaign last year but an impressive summer transfer window sparked expectations of challenging for the title again and that remains the expectation, despite poor performances and results against those that are expected to be around them in the table. The Rossoneri have enjoyed seven wins with a draw and three defeats in their 11 games so far.
Up until a shock 1-0 defeat at home to Udinese last weekend, AC Milan’s only poor performances or dropped points had come against some of the better sides in Serie A, such as Napoli, Juventus and Internazionale. They have collected just one point from their last three matches as they slip away from the league leaders.
THE TEAM NEWS
LECCE
Lecce have a couple of injuries for this weekend but the most important and crucial one of all is that of key attacker Pontus Almqvist, who will be unavailable.
PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Falcone; Gendrey, Pongracic, Baschirotto, Dorgu; Kaba, Ramadani, Rafia; Sansone, Krstovic, Banda
UNAVAILABLE: Almqvist (Injured), Corfitzen (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE:
AC MILAN
AC Milan have a few injury concerns and remain without long-term absentee Ismael Bennacer, as well as the likes of Mattia Caldara and Christian Pulisic.
PREDICTED XI (4-4-2): Maignan; Calabria, Thiaw, Tomori, Florenzi; Musah, Krunic, Reijnders, Leao; Giroud, Jovic
UNAVAILABLE: Pulisic (Injured), Pellegrino (Injured), Kalulu (Injured), Sportiello (Injured), Caldara (Injured), Bennacer (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE: Kjaer (Injured)
THE PREDICTION
The home team, as mentioned, started the season quite well but are now drifting in Serie A and this is a tough test, albeit against a faltering AC Milan side. Roberto D’Aversa is a genuinely proactive coach but that could play into the hands of the visitors as Milan look to exploit a bit of space which they didn’t quite get against Udinese last weekend. A fairly entertaining and potentially high-scoring away win is the expected outcome for this one.
BETTING TIP: AC MILAN TO WIN & OVER 2.5 GOALS
