THE LOWDOWN

GENOA

Following promotion last season, 2006 FIFA World Cup winner Alberto Gilardino have managed to coach his Genoa side into a reasonable position in Serie A last season. The Genovese outfit begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting in the middle-of-the-table with a goalless draw away to Juventus a couple of weeks ago.

The ownership group of Genoa, 777 Partners, is one that has come under scrutiny as they attempt to purchase a majority shareholding in Everton but the controversial American group have invested relatively heavily and relatively well into Genoa and there will be an expectation that they kick on and push towards the top seven or eight in the coming seasons.

FROSINONE

Frosinone gained automatic promotion from Serie B alongside Genoa last season but decided to part company with their own 2006 FIFA World Cup winner, Fabio Grosso, and replace the former left-back with former Roma boss Eusebio Di Francesco. In typical Di Francesco style, Frosinone have played an entertaining style of football but it has been generally ineffective.

Their 29 matches so far this season have consisted of 97 goals with the worst defensive record in the league. The Romans have slipped into the bottom three and the relegation places ahead of this match day but Di Francesco does, fairly surprisingly, remain in charge of the Canaries after their 3-2 loss at home to then manager-less Lazio in a capital city derby a couple of weeks ago.

THE PREDICTION

What has been fairly strange this season is that many Genoa supporters will be a little underwhelmed by their side’s performances, especially with the style in which they have collected their points. However, after gaining automatic promotion alongside Frosinone, they are ten points better off than supposed rivals. Frosinone have decided to stick by Di Francesco and that seems like an unusual choice so, as a result, backing Genoa looks the way to go for this one, especially with their home advantage.

TIP: DOUBLE CHANCE – GENOA TO WIN OR DRAW
