FIORENTINA PREVIEW: ADJUSTMENT FOR I VIOLA
In each of the last two seasons, Vincenzo Italiano led Fiorentina to the final of the UEFA Europa Conference League but they suffered defeat in both of those games with a late loss to West Ham United and then an extra-time defeat to Olympiakos. Well, under former Monza boss Raffaele Palladino, they have their work cut out to even make the group stages.
I Viola come into this one on the back of a 3-3 draw against Hungarian side Puskas Akademia at the Artemio Franchi in the first-leg of their UEFA Europa Conference League playoff round tie the other day. That followed on from beginning their Serie A season with a 1-1 draw against newly-promoted Parma.
VENEZIA PREVIEW: VERY DIFFERENT VENEZIA
Following promotion back to the top-flight of Italian football last season, Venezia lost their manager, former Italy youth team coach Paolo Vanoli, to a new look Torino side in the summer. They are now being coached by former Roma boss Eusebio Di Francesco, who, despite an entertaining style of football, relegated Frosinone last season.
The Venetians will be hoping to avoid that but began in similarly open fashion on the opening day of the season as they were beaten by three goals to one by Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico in the capital city last weekend. They took an early lead in that game but were the weaker side throughout as Lazio turned it around.
FIORENTINA TEAM NEWS: RESTING AND ROTATING
It is unclear as to how important Raffaele Palladino will take the UEFA Europa Conference League with the second-leg in Hungary later this week potentially meaning they take that quite seriously and rotate for this one.
They will be missing key new signing Marin Pongracic as the Croatia international defender is suspended after being red carded against Parma last weekend on the opening day.
PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Terracciano; Martinez Quarta, Parisi, Comuzzo; Dodo, Mandragora, Amrabat, Biraghi; Colpani, Kouame; Kean
UNAVAILABLE: Pongracic (Suspended)
QUESTIONABLE:
VENEZIA TEAM NEWS: POHJANPALO OUT
After playing for the United States at the Summer Olympics earlier this month, it will frustrate Eusebio Di Francesco that midfielder Gio Busio is still a doubt for this weekend.
As well as probably being unable to field Busio, Di Francesco will also continue to be without Finland international striker Joel Pohjanpalo for the trip to Florence.
PREDICTED XI (3-4-2-1): Joronen; Altare, Svoboda, Sverko; Richie Sagrado, Duncan, Andersen, Zampano; Oristanio, Ellertsson; Gytkjaer
UNAVAILABLE: Pohjanpalo (Injured)
QUESTIONABLE: Busio (Injured)
FIORENTINA VS VENEZIA PREDICTION
Raffaele Palladino’s Fiorentina are looking likely to try and play quite an entertaining style of a 3-4-2-1 system, which is tweaked from Vincenzo Italiano’s 4-2-3-1 preference. Their 3-3 draw against Puskas Akademia and the entertaining opener against Parma would support that. Venezia will be very attacking and fun to watch under Di Francesco, if a little ineffective. Fiorentina have to have won one of their opening two against newly-promoted opposition.
