THE LOWDOWN

RB LEIPZIG

RB Leipzig have bounced back strongly from their defeat away at Bayer Leverkusen in the opening round, winning their following two Bundesliga fixtures. After thrashing Stuttgart 5-1, Marco Rose’s side made a big statement last time out by going to fellow Champions League group stage entrants Union Berlin and turning them over by three goals to nil.

It was another dominating second-half performance by Rose’s men, who bagged all three goals across that period, Xavi Simons opening the scoring before Benjamin Sesko added a late brace. Leipzig have now racked up nine goals in the second-half of league matches this season.

AUGSBURG

Augsburg remain without a win in this season’s Bundesliga so far, but did at least manage to get another point on the board against Bochum, although they are the sort of opposition Augsburg need to be beating at home if they are to avoid a relegation battle this season. Twice they took the lead and twice Bochum pegged them back, a source of frustration for sure.

Whilst goals haven’t been a problem for Augsburg, keeping them out has been. Only one Bundesliga club have shipped more goals than Augsburg nine after three rounds of fixtures. This doesn’t bode well for them here when considering the opposition’s class.

THE TEAM NEWS

RB LEIPZIG

It was a nightmare international break for the hosts, who lost two hugely influential players. Attacking midfielder Dani Olmo has been ruled out for a number of weeks with a knee injury picked up playing for Spain, whilst captain Willie Orban also suffered an injury to the knee for Hungary. Orban in particular is expected to be out for a significant period of time.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-2-2): Blaswich; Henrichs, Simakan, Castello, Raum; Xavi, Schlager, Simons, Forsberg; Openda, Sesko

UNAVAILABLE: Haidara (Injured), Olmo (Injured), Orban (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Baumgartner (Injured), Klostermann (Illness)

AUGSBURG

Augsburg could match up RB Leipzig formation-wise, but 4-4-2 is the likely route they will take. The injury list is still large with Framberger (knee), Michel (groin), Okugawa (knee) and Tanganga (knee) all missing, whilst Gouweleeuw and Winther are both doubtful due to toe and foot injuries respectively.

PREDICTED XI (4-4-2): Dahmen; Gumny, Bauer, Uduokhai, Pedersen; Vargas, Engels, Dorsch, Demirovic; Beljo, Tietz

UNAVAILABLE: Framberger (Injured), Michel (Injured), Okugawa (Injured), Oxford (Illness), Tanganga (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Gouweleeuw (Injured), Winther (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Although the loss of Dani Olmo will be a blow to RB Leipzig when taking into account his form over the course of the season so far, the hosts have more than enough firepower to compensate for his absence. The attacking riches at the disposal of Marco Rose should see his side wind up far too strong for an Augsburg team who have conceded an average of three goals per game in the Bundesliga so far. Back victory for RB Leipzig by at least two clear goals.

TIP: RB LEIPZIG TO WIN WITH -1 HANDICAP
