THE LOWDOWN

DARMSTADT

Darmstadt applied themselves well on their long-awaited return to the Bundesliga, always keeping themselves in the game in what was a really tough first game away to Eintracht Frankfurt. However, they never really looked like scoring and after they went behind on 40 minutes, the outcome felt inevitable.

Over the course of the game, Darmstadt managed just two shots on target, something they’ll no doubt be looking to rectify immediately in this next contest, although the opposition certainly doesn’t get any easier.

UNION BERLIN

Union Berlin have so much to look forward to this season, not least Champions League football come September. But they certainly haven’t taken their eye off the bread and butter of the Bundesliga, making a statement start with a 4-1 thrashing of Mainz. It took them just one minute to get off the mark, striker Kevin Behrens opening the scoring.

It was a memorable day for Behrens, who took home the match ball after going on to net a hat-trick whilst substitute Milos Pantovic also got on the scoresheet late on, sealing a result only dampened by the loss of their clean sheet.

THE TEAM NEWS

DARMSTADT

With home advantage in their favour, Darmstadt may look to set up with a more attacking mentality and field a front two. If that turns out to be the case, then Luca Pfeiffer is a viable option to partner Fraser Hornby up top. If Matthias Bader is passed fit, then he could also come into the side as a right-wing-back with Emir Karic moving to the left-hand-side.

PREDICTED XI (3-4-1-2): Schuhen; Klarer, Zimmermann, Maglica; Bader, Mehlem, Holland, Karic; Honsak; Hornby, Pfeiffer

UNAVAILABLE:

QUESTIONABLE: Bader (Injured), Kempe (Injured)

UNION BERLIN

It’s a case of as you were for Union Berlin in terms of injuries with Rani Khedira, Lucas Tousart and Andras Schafer all expected to miss out once again. Full-backs Josip Juranovic and new signing Robin Gosens were both on the bench against Mainz, but it would be no surprise to see either of them in the starting XI this time round.

PREDICTED XI (3-5-2): Ronnow; Doekhi, Knoche, Leite; Trimmel, Laidouni, Kral, Aaronson, Gosens; Fofana, Behrens

UNAVAILABLE: Khedira (Injured), Schafer (Injured), Tousart (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Haberer

THE PREDICTION

Union Berlin look every bit as strong as they turned out to be last season in the Bundesliga, combining defensive stability with attacking potency. They’ll need to soak up periods of pressure against a newly-promoted Darmstadt side likely to come flying out of the traps in-front of their own fans. Class should tell in the end though and when factoring in the impressive strength-in-depth at the disposal of Urs Fischer, Union Berlin are well worth backing to triumph on the road, although doing so via the safety of the draw no bet market is advised.

TIP: UNION BERLIN DRAW NO BET
