THE TEAM NEWS
KOLN
- Koln failed to win yet again last week but after two losses that saw them concede a combined seven goals, a point against Augsburg was a welcome one last week as they moved a step closer to securing their spot in the Bundesliga.
- Koln somehow managed to keep the scores level in the first half and had goalkeeper Timo Horn to thank as he saved from the spot and when substitute Anthony Modeste gave the visitors the lead with just five minutes remaining, they looked to have snatched all three points.
- It was not to be however as Augsburg levelled just three minutes later and Koln will need to pick themselves up quickly, although they will still be without injured duo Marcel Risse and Simon Terodde.
UNION BERLIN
- Union Berlin remain in trouble at the wrong end of the Bundesliga table as they failed to win for the eighth successive game as they were held to a draw at home to Schalke 04 last weekend which leaves them just four points ahead of the relegation spots.
- Union took an early lead through Robert Andrich but they could not find a way to retake the lead when Schalke equalised just before the half-hour mark as they had to settle for a point in a game they would have believed they could claim all three.
- They now head to Koln without the use of Akaki Gogia and Sheraldo Becker who remain sidelined while Robert Andrich is banned but Christopher Lenz could come back into contention if he can prove his fitness.
THE PREDICTION
Both of these teams are out of form but it is Union Berlin that will
be more desperate to end their poor run after sliding into trouble at
the wrong end of the table. Koln are by no means safe but they should
have enough points on the board to let their six-match streak without a
win see them fall into any real danger. Union on the other hand could
still get sucked in to trouble with them possessing just a four-point
advantage over Fortuna Dusseldorf who sit in 16th. Neither
side are strong defensively and with both teams scoring in all of Koln’s
last seven matches, that streak is likely to continue here.
