THE LOWDOWN
STRASBOURG
Over the summer, Strasbourg were the subject of a controversial takeover that elicited supporter protest as Clearlake Capital became the owners of the Alsace club. There was unrest at the idea of becoming essentially a feeder club to Chelsea. A positive would be it allowed them to sign some players, such as Abakar Sylla and Angelo, who they would not have otherwise been able to.
The club appointed former Crystal Palace and Nice boss Patrick Vieira as their new manager but performances on the pitch have remained underwhelming. They managed three victories in their opening ten matches as they languished in the bottom-half of the table and they were held to a 1-1 draw away to Rennes.
CLERMONT
Off-field improvement and strategizing allowed Clermont to finally propel themselves into the top-flight in 2020. Since then, they have been tipped up to be relegated each season but each season they have defied the odds and, once again, will be seeking to defy the odds, under the management of Pascal Gastien.
‘The Lancers’ come into this on the back of a 1-0 defeat at home to league leaders Nice in their most recent outing, last weekend. However, that slender defeat to the high flyers had followed Clermont earning their first and important victory of the season as they went away to fellow strugglers Lyon and defeated them by two goals to one.

THE PREDICTION
It has been a really underwhelming start to the season for Patrick Vieira and the pressure is growing on the former Arsenal captain as they begin the weekend sitting just a couple of points and places above the bottom three. They have collected just a point in their last four matches. Clermont remain in the bottom two and the automatic relegation places but are a stubborn side for anyone to face, let alone a team struggling for form of their own. Given that, this is unlikely to be a thriller, regardless of who comes out on top.
