THE LOWDOWN

MONTPELLIER

Michel Der Zakarian has had a few off-field issues to contend with at Montpellier Herault this season, a fallout with defender Mamadou Sakho and his eventual contract termination being one example. The Armenian coach would have entered the season a little concerned about being drawn into a relegation battle with the reduction of Ligue 1 from 20 to 18 teams.

In their opening ten matches of the 2023/24 Ligue campaign, Montpellier have managed just three victories with three draws so far this season. Their recent form of two victories, two defeats and a draw in their last five matches means that they begin the weekend sitting in the bottom-half of the table.

NICE

Under the ownership of INEOS, Nice have had a few failed and chaotic ideas off the field and they have consistently underperformed. The surprising appointment of Francesco Farioli over the summer, though, has allowed them to become one of the more forward thinking, over achievers in the early stages of this campaign.

The visitors begin the twelfth Ligue 1 match day sitting at the top-of-the-table as the only unbeaten team in France’s top-flight. They come into this on the back of a comfortable and impressive 2-0 defeat of Stade Rennais last weekend. They have now enjoyed four successive victories, conceding just four goals so far this season.

THE TEAM NEWS

MONTPELLIER

Michel Der Zakarian has a few injury or suspension concerns, remaining without Arnaud Nordin and Becir Omeragic, and now missing the suspended Kiki Kouyate.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Bulka; Rosario, Todibo, Dante, Bard; Boudaoui, Sanson, Thuram; Laborde, Moffi, Boga

THE PREDICTION

Montpellier have been relatively entertaining so far this season with 15 goals scored in their ten matches. However, they have failed to score a goal in five of their last seven matches in Ligue 1. They now face the French league leaders Nice, who have managed to concede just four goals so far this season and have the best defensive record of any side in Europe. Given that, whilst Nice are firm favourites, another good bet would be to back a low-scoring encounter.

BETTING TIP: DOUBLE CHANCE – NICE TO WIN OR DRAW & UNDER 3.5 GOALS
